Four lovely ladies

This is in the woods near Black Star Farms near Suttons Bay MI where we visited earlier this week.  Truly a wonderful trip and a nice respite from the daily activities.

Today, however, I am writing about four new friends I made recently, Aldora, Margaret, Joanne and Marian.  We did yard work for these ladies over the course of the last month.  Aldora is a sturdy Texas woman with a tight reign on her emotions and an effective plan to accomplish every task. Margaret is a superbly gracious lady that is 93 and fully functional with great stories of her family and their Irish roots.  She has tea at 3:30 pm every day.  Both of these ladies have made us feel welcome and enjoyed our company.  Joanne is more like the ladies in our neighborhood growing up cooking for a party really warmed up more to my wife than me, but sweet none the less.  Marian is in a sad dilemma that will only worsen.  Her husband is declining after a stroke and she is his sole caregiver.  She is overwhelmed, but we helped a little.

It hit me today why I felt so connected to these women.  Dorothy would have liked them.  She would have enjoyed the conversations and the laughs and having tea and desserts. I hope she is looking down with approval on this activity.  When I was a youngster there was an older lady that lived next door.  She would make me lunch of sandwiches and poached eggs and made me feel special.  This is also part of the connection.

all for now
